Drains

The mission of the Public Improvement Drain Division of the Department of Public Service (DPS) is to provide for the effective administration of the City’s drainage and floodplain regulations. There are currently twenty-eight Chapter 20 Drains in service within the City. Large-scale public drainage improvements are constructed and maintained by the Oakland County Water Resources Commission (OCWRC).

Except for county-owned drainage systems, storm sewers, detention basins, and other storm water facilities are owned by various subdivision associations or by the public at-large. The City historically has played only a regulatory role in the maintenance of these storm water systems.
