Description Light weight turkish towel from the Tokyo Station Hotel. It's off-white with red thread woven into a banding at both edges. Edges are fringed. Japanese characters are painted in blue on the ends. Printed in English on the towel is "for Guest Room, Tokyo Station Hotel"

Event Details From Alice Serrell, attached to accession sheet:

"This is where they were when the earthquake hit. It was 1 of the 2 undamaged buildings left in Tokyo, the other was the Imperial Hotel. Both were designed by Frank Llyod Wright. 1923"

Alice Van Hoosen Jones, Sarah Van Hoosen Jones & Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen stayed at the Tokyo Station Hotel during the September 1923 earthquake. The Tokyo Station and Imperial Hotel, both designed by Frank Llyod Wright, were the only 2 undamaged buildings.
